Symptoms of COVID-19:

There is a range of symptoms and severity.
Symptoms may include:
  • fever
  • dry cough
  • productive cough (less common)
  • headache
  • abdominal pain with diarrhoea
  • loss of sense of smell
  • reduced appetite
  • aching muscles
  • fatigue

What do I do if I return a positive test result?

You must immediately isolate at home, or other suitable accommodation, away from other people in your household.
• Isolate for 7 complete days (a day runs from midnight to midnight), from the date you took your test (not the date you received the test result).
• If you do not have symptoms at the end of 7 complete days, you can leave isolation. You do not need to take another test or be cleared by WA Health to leave isolation.
• If you have symptoms at the end of 7 days, you must continue to isolate until your symptoms resolve. If you require further advice, call 13COVID (13 26 843) or your GP.
• After leaving isolation, you must wear a mask indoors and outdoors (in areas accessible to the public) and in any vehicle for 7 days. Isolation for 7 days means 7 complete days from the date you took your test, regardless of the time of the test.
For example, if you took your test at 11:45pm on 7 February, your isolation period finishes at midnight on 14 February

Definitions:

Isolation - a person needs to isolate if they have or are suspected to have COVID-19.

Steps you need to take in isolation
If you are not at home when you find out you have COVID-19, you must go straight home. You cannot stop anywhere, not even to buy medicine or groceries. Where possible, use personal transport such as a private car.
You must stay isolated and follow the government directives. You can see these in the posters attached above.
If you leave isolation without permission, you may face criminal charges or a fine.
Isolation means you:
  • must not leave your home except in an emergency or to get essential medical care
  • must not go into public places including work and shops
  • must not let any other person into your home unless the person
    • lives with you and cannot live with someone else
    • is providing medical care for you
    • is entering for an emergency
If you live in a house, you may go into your garden or courtyard. You can go onto your balcony if you live in an apartment or are staying in a hotel.

Close Contact - is when you have been in direct contact with someone with COVID-19. If this happens you will be required to isolate from other people to prevent the spread of the virus.
WA has moved to a high caseload environment.
In the high caseload environment, a ‘close’ contact is defined as:
  • a household member or intimate partner of a person with COVID-19 who has had contact with them during their infectious period; or
  • someone who has had close personal interaction with someone during their infectious period, where that interaction involved:
    • at least 15 minutes face-to-face contact where a mask was not worn by the exposed person and the person with COVID-19;
    • greater than two hours within a small room, where masks have been removed for this period by the exposed person and the person with COVID-19 (note: if others are wearing masks in this scenario they would not be a contact); or
    • someone who is directed by WA Health that they are a close contact.

If a public health authority directs you to, you must go into a mandatory isolation for 7 days.
